Scott is suffering from Cystic Fibrosis (CF), a disease that has affected him his entire life. Although his cousin was born and diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis when Scott was 5 years old, doctors did not think it was necessary to test Scott for the disease.
When Scott was 15, both he and his mom came down with the flu, but his mom quickly realized Scott's illness was much worse.
Within three weeks, he lost 20 pounds, and doctors finally tested him for the disease. Scott and his family soon learned the devastating news that he was in fact suffering from CF. Because this condition is typically diagnosed within the first three years of life, Scott's case had significantly worsened over the years. Scott has been told a lung transplant is critical to his survival. Without a transplant, doctors don't expect him to live more than two more years, and he is only 34 years old.
